Lindy Hop Levels

Intermediate

Experience: You dance around 6 months to 1 year. You are doing regular classes and/or some weekend workshops.

Knowledge: You’ve learned basic concepts of leading and following and you've worked on technique, connection, musicality and improvisation. You can easily communicate basic steps to your partner, your Swingout is still not perfect yet but your repertoire of moves is growing and you already know elements like: Lindy Circle, Promenade, Tuck Turn, Basic 8-count and 6-count passes.

Social Dancing: You dance socially at least once time per week and you’re motivated to become a better social dancer. You feel most comfortable with medium song tempos, but you're still struggling to faster or very slow tempos.

Intermediate-Advanced

Experience: You have 1-2 years of lindy hop experience and you did many classes and local workshops. You’ve started attending international festivals as well.

Knowledge: You have big repertoire of movements and know advanced elements like: Texas Tommy, Sugar Push, Sailor Step, fundamental Charleston moves and Tandem variations. You can easily mix basic steps and use different techniques in a dance. You are feeling comfortable with your swingout and have learned few variations, as well. You’ve also mastered the Shim Sham routine. You may not be into the competitions or performances but you do understand importance of Solo Jazz dancing and you’ve already learned different aspects of musicality. You would like to learn more complicated stuff and rhythmic variations.

Social Dancing: You're well known social dancer on your scene and you're always taking good care of your partner. Your connection is solid and you can adapt to many partners. You’re not afraid of very slow and very fast tempo.

Advanced

Experience: You have 3-4 years of swing dancing experience and you’re taking part in many festivals in your country and around the world.

Knowledge: You have greater understanding of rhythm, syncopations and strong connection with the music. You can spontaneously create moves on the spot, on a dancefloor. You’ve also know many Solo Jazz elements and can easily put them into the couple dance. You’ve probably learned some other dances as well, like blues, balboa, shag. You probably competing and performing, teaching local classes or tasters.

Social Dancing: You have solid dance floor skills (space awareness and use of a floor) and understanding of what means “partnership” in a dance. You do a lot of social dancing and you are not a party pooper. Extreme tempos are not a problem for you and you are able to dance freely with every partner, to any music.


Solo Jazz Levels

Intermediate

You already have some experience in Solo Jazz, are comfortable with plenty of basics and are searching for new challenges. You already took Solo Jazz classes or several workshops. You know the Shim Sham well and probably also the Tranky Doo or similar routines. You have heard about musicality and may have experimented with improvisation.

Intermediate/Advanced

You already have some experience in Solo Jazz, are comfortable with plenty of basics and are searching for new challenges. You already took Solo Jazz classes or several workshops. You know the Shim Sham well and probably also the Tranky Doo or similar routines. You have heard about musicality and may have experimented with improvisation. You are currently extending your vocabulary, finessing your technique, you improvise and try to implement your knowledge of swing music in your dancing.


Collegiate Shag

Intermediate

You no longer have to think about the basic footwork and you are confident in leading or following different simple variations. Your repertoire of moves is growing. You can easily transmit from open to close position, and dance moves like tuck turns, pass-bys, collegiate kicks, bunny hops, sailor etc. You feel comfortable in mid-tempo and are curious to know more to dance in faster tempos. And you want to know more and more movements. You’ve participated in a few workshops or at least one bigger collegiate shag festival.

Advanced

You are an experienced shag dancer and you dance shag whenever you have the opportunity. You have been attending regular Shag classes for a while now or you attend many events and practice deeply and regularly. You are very confident with 6-count double time Shag footwork as well as 8-count and other variations. You are comfortable dancing to Shag on the social dance floor and you have an impressive repertoire of moves under your belt. You are able to dance to mid-fast tempos (200BPM) without losing your footwork or timing, but also not afraid of fast-tempo songs (250 BPM). Now you want to take it to the next level and refine your techniques as well as expand on the moves you know.


Balboa

Intermediate/Advanced

You are an experienced Balboa lover. You are really proficient in all of the basic of Bal and Bal-Swing moves. You can do variations on footwork and some complicated turns as well as dance Balboa to fast tempo. You have a strong interest in mastering your technique – you already know that the quality of movement is more important than a large number of figures. So you want to work on musicality, aesthetics of your movement, leading or following. You also try to use different rhythmical variations and improvise without fear. You dance Balboa on regular basis, travel to Balboa events and at the parties you always wait for the fast music.


Blues

from Intermediate

You’ve been learning Blues dancing for more than one year, you practice on a regular basis and you start owing a certain vocabulary. Still, you want to overstep this level. In this classes, you will improve your basics, increase your vocabulary, and start to work on musicality and styling.
